Blood
Donation
Any eligible donor can donate blood through out 365 days,
8 am to 8 pm at blood centre
Raktadoot
Seva (Blood Courier Service)
This is a doorstep blood service to avoid troubles and worries of
patient’s relatives whenever blood is required. A team of 10 persons is deputed for this task
with proper monitoring system and training of blood handling and transportation.
Platelet
Donation
Blood Centre has facility to prepare 'Single Donor Platelet'
(SDP). Team of almost 400 voluntary platelet donors regularly donates platelets and we take care
for its availability as and when required. Time to donate Platelets is 9 am to & 7 pm, every
day.
Blood
Group confirmation
Facility of Blood donor group confirmation and antibody screening
is available in blood centre.
Blood
Component Seperation By Advanced Method
Component are separated from donor's blood. It is done on hi-tech
centrifuges component extractors by scientific method. Plasma (liquid part of blood) is frozen
rapidly by snap freezing.
It preserves maximum clotting factors for patients benefit and can be used upto 1 year. Whereas
platelets can be used up to 5 days. Also, leucodepletion is done whenever necessary, harmful
white cells (Leucocytes) are removed from donor's blood. Leucodepleted blood is safer and more
effective.
Cross
Matching
Cross-matching is a test done before a blood transfusion to
determine if the donor's blood is compatible with the blood of an intended recipient. It is a
kind of demonstration of what will happen if the particular unit of red cells is transfused to
the patient. Cross Matching takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Red cell units without cross matching
can be given in dire emergency in certain situations. Such decisions are taken by the treating
doctors in conjunction with the blood bank.
It's essentially a trial transfusion done in blood bank laboratory
to see exactly how patient’s blood will react with donor blood. OR What will happen after
transfusing the unit of red cells to the patient, is seen in the blood bank laboratory by
performing a cross matching test. Only if this cross matching test shows compatible results,
then the red cell unit is issued to the patient. However, few patients might face minor adverse
effects of transfusion of blood components. These can occur in spite of compatibility testing
being done correctly.
Only giving same group red cells is not sufficiently safe. They
should be necessarily crossmatch compatible. Patient’s blood is mixed with donor’s blood and
incubated at 37 degrees C to simulate patient’s body conditions. Some reagents are used in this
procedure.
